The majority of these individuals were lied to & manipulated carefully by masters at manipulation and deception. These people literally thought they were serving god since Amy, Miguel & Avigail said so.

 

Amy was manipulated into believing she was mother god, via Amerith, Will & Miguel.

 

When Miguel got Amy for himself, they then recruited Avigail / Faith and together Miguel & Avigail were able to really push hard to keep Amy in delusion and bring in others to just support that.

The majority that found them, from the very beginning, absolutely had good intentions. Most were seeking knowledge, community, and love. That's what makes the scam work.
